So I had far less time available to me to work yesterday than I expected, but I got more done today! Also an EXPLANATION of what the hell I'm actually doing here, for those who weren't here/don't remember from last year :D

First off- some studies I did yesterday. The top is of a... something... from a russian rocket facility that some woman snuck into and took a bunch of pictures of. There are some awesome pictures of who-knows-the-frik-what that are definitely worth checking out. I plan on doing a few more of these just to get ideas for industrial clutter. This first episode takes place on a peicemeal spaceport cobbled together from what was originally a multi-generational transport ship. It has since been drastically repurposed, but in more of a 'whatever supplies we can manage' sort of way. So the back halls are rather exposed and full of pipes and parts and things. And then later they also pay visit to a mining facility. So there's that.
But yes! Explanation! Those are good things, right? Basically, Relative Dimensions could be called AU Doctor Who fanfic, more or less. It started out as an RP between my friend and I just for fun, written as a sort of 'lost series' set between series 3 and 4, and involving an original companion. But after two 'seasons', we were really pleased with what we had created pretty much on the fly, and decided to polish it into something presentable. So this project is an effort to turn that original RP into a illustrated web novel- It is prose, but the illustrations are more like panels nested into the text, so it takes cues from the comic format as well. We made several draft passes over the first 'episode' last summer and so now it is just up to me to illustrate it all.
In the spirit of artslam, though, I try to keep what I post to mostly original creations, which there is more than enough of considering we have a new world every episode. My goal for this summer is to at least get the first episode done, complete, fin- posted online and everything! I think once I have that under my belt I will be able to keep working on the rest in my freetime and, ideally, making regular updates- maybe releasing a 'part' every month or so.
But yeah! For those not already familiar, let me introduce our companion for this lost chapter of time and space, Damien Mitchell.

...Okay. So Damien would probably not ever wear something like that normally but I just really wanted to put him in a cool jacket okay :| Can we get a more accurate idea of his dress here?
Alright, there we go. A couple panel comps from the intro scene. (Ignore the screwed up perspective) Uh, yeah, sometimes I just have to put my characters in fashions I like and they just kinda gotta deal with it. With Damien it tends to be military-inspired stuff because it is the sort of thing he might wear just to be an ironic punk about it or something. Or would have when he was younger, anyway. His family actually has a military/political history, and he was expected to follow in those footsteps growing up. Obviously this did not pan out because Damien was a rebellious little pain in the ass right from the start. This became even more prominent in his teenage years, and by the time he was eighteen or nineteen, he left the planet he had grown up on in order to seek out a less stifling environment.
He bounced around for a few years until he wound up on Port Cermak, where he has worked various odd jobs both on the station and on the nearby colonies. It's really all colonies out this far in the system, which is not quite so free a life as he had expected, especially when people know he is from a nicer upbringing and thus... not quite one of them.
But yeah, more on him later, I don't wanna info dump too much in one post.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe it got late so fast. I was hoping to finish this panel today but magically it is 11:30 and I don't know how that happened. So here's a work in progress shot, anyway! I'll definitely finish it tomorrow. The rest of the panels should go faster since they'll be less out of my league. I think. We'll find out, any way!
